The locals know this place as Woopi and there is plenty to say ‘whoopee’ about. A great little village is your starting point then follow the Solitary Islands Coastal Walk north along the beach of Woolgoolga to Woolgoolga Lake.
This easy stroll takes in a long stretch of beautiful white sandy beach and returns via the road through coastal forest and heath land and past a resident flying fox colony.
Once you have reached Woolgoolga you can park near the Surf Club. This is the north coast and you need to kick back a gear to take in the full experience.
The Solitary Islands Coastal Walk takes you along a beautiful white sandy beach with amazing vistas of the coastline. About 1.3km north you will find Woolgoolga Lake, a coastal lagoon ideal for swimming, kayaking, fishing and canoeing.
Along the way you may be lucky enough to see the “Buster” ship wreck – a steamer that ran ashore in 1893. The wreck becomes exposed from time to time depending on sea conditions.
Woolgoolga Lake Reserve is a family-friendly picnic area, shielded from the sun by shady eucalypts and paperbarks. This is a great place to relax, be serenaded by nature, swim and a get into that north coast spirit. There is a wealth of resident birdlife to watch.
Feel like a coffee? Amble back to the village through coastal forest and heath land and past the resident flying fox colony. You won’t be able to wipe the smile off your face
