Sawtell Headland

Sawtell | Ganyjarr Ganyjarr

Just 10km south of Coffs Harbour is the seaside village of Sawtell. Idyllic beaches, fabulous cafes and a magnificent national park make Sawtell the perfect beachside escape on the beautiful Coffs Coast.

The village of Sawtell is haven of small, boutique shops selling everything from aboriginal art to the latest in fashionable clothing, shoes and accessories. Shaded by massive Moreton Bay fig trees, Sawtell’s First Avenue is also packed with top-class restaurants and cafes. The Spare Room and Hilltop Store are firm favorites with the locals, as is the gorgeous Majestic Cinema for movie buffs.

Sawtell Beach curves from Bonville Headland in the south to Murrays Beach at Boambee Head in the north. At the southern end is the small Sawtell Island, a rocky reef that shelters Sailors Bay. There’s an ocean pool on Bonville Headland’s southern side where Bonville Creek flows into the sea.

Bonville Creek meanders through the Bongil Bongil National Park, a great destination for fishing, kayaking and bushwalking. The colourful birdlife in Bongil Bongil is remarkable, and there are breeding grounds for migratory birds such as the endangered little tern. Relax at the tranquil Bongil picnic area. C-Change Adventures offers kayaking tours here, while mountain bike trails weave through the towering eucalypts.

Look for dozing koalas on the Bluff loop walking track, an easy 2km route through rainforest. Another great track is the lush Bundagaree Rainforest walk, a 6km trek to Bongil Beach.

from kayaking and fishing, to surfing and bushwalking. From alfresco dining to strolling down First Avenue on a balmy evening. IF YOU LOVE THE GREAT OUTDOORS, YOU’LL LOVE SAWTELL FOR ALL IT HAS TO OFFER.
