You’re never short of things to do in the Bellingen Shire no matter what the weather. From walks, hikes, kayaks and swims to eating at delicious, quality restaurants, cafes and pubs, roaming through local markets, and getting into the festivals – you are spoilt for choice. This picturesque valley also attracts professional and amateur photographers.
The township of Bellingen is nestled in the Bellingen Valley on the banks of the Bellinger River. Throughout the year it hosts a diverse range of festivals, events and market days. It’s a delightful place to relax and enjoy the stunning view and some fine local music while sampling this region’s produce in friendly restaurants and cafes around town. Enjoy a scenic drive, go for a nature bike ride, stretch your legs on a gentle nature walk or more challenging hike, or kayak along the river.
Further west along the Waterfall Way, Dorrigo lays claim to the ‘World Heritage Listed’ Gondwana rainforests of Dorrigo National Park, with stunning lookouts, scenic walking trails, waterfalls, birds and wildlife. This part of the Bellingen Shire offers the ‘adventurous-at-heart’ extraordinary bushwalking, 4 wheel driving, mountain bike riding, canoeing, bird watching and trout fishing.
On the coast, the picturesque and peaceful town of Urunga is popular with boaters, picnickers, swimmers and anglers. The Boardwalk is arguably the jewel in Urunga’s already stunning crown. At the beginning of the boardwalk is the “lido” area of Urunga. Magically family-friendly, the lido provides a sheltered and safe (when supervised!) place for children to swim, with a playground, shelters, barbeques and public toilets also available. With trees providing some shade it is a lovely way to escape the heat on warmer days.
Or enjoy the Urunga Wetlands walk which includes a 450m scenic track around the park and wetlands, and a 150m boardwalk that stretches out over the wetland. Discover it for yourself...
