Entertain the kids for hours at one of the best family friendly attractions in Coffs Harbour
In Coffs Harbour the sun doesn’t wait for summer to shine in all its glory, especially on Australia’s original ‘big thing’.
It’s just 11am and already the energy at The Big Banana Fun Park is palpable. From Canberra to Melbourne, Sydney to Perth, I meet families and friends visiting from all around the country, with The Big Banana Fun Park on the top of their to do list when adventuring through the Coffs Coast.
Keep the kids entertained at the Big Banana Fun Park
“For the full experience, clear a day or two as you will easily pack them full,” says Michael Lockman, General Manager of the Fun Park, as he walks me towards the only TriotechXO Theatre on the East Coast. It’s here he puts me on the Canyon Coaster 40 Ride Simulator, and for someone who loves a thrill, it was exhilarating.
A Family Friendly attraction you must experience in Coffs Harbour
I have to whole heartedly agree… there is just so much to do! Start your day with a choc coated banana and a flat white at the popular Cafe while the kids go bananas for the ‘Go Bananas Fun Zone ‘ right next door. Don’t have kids? Just be one yourself – relax and enjoy the full Big Banana experience.
The journey of The Big Banana Fun Park has been as big as the Banana itself. One day in 1964, while standing at his roadside banana stall, farmer John Landi had a big idea. In order to catch the attention of passing traffic he sat down with local engineer, Alan Chapman, to design the giant banana by seeking out the best-looking piece of fruit he could find and begin construction plans. Australia’s first ‘big thing’ was born on December 22 that year.As all good things are, The Big Banana was destine d for even bigger things.
The largest water park between Sydney and the Gold Coast
Now, The Big Banana Fun Park is also home to the biggest Water Park between Sydney and the Gold Coast. As well as a state-of-the -art Laser Tag Arena, Ice Skating Rink, Toboggan Ride, The World of Bananas Theatre and Plantation Tour, 36-hole Mini Golf Course, the biggest Giant Slide in the country known as ‘The Racer,’ a 4D Ride Simulator as well as a Gift and Souvenir Shop and Cafe & Ice Creamery.
The iconic Big Banana is a favourite among national & international tourists
It’s here in the Cafe that I meet the Odell family, who have spent the last year traveling through Australia with four children under the age of five. “We are nearing the end now and it’s been the biggest year of growth for us as parents. Traveling with so many little humans with different needs in such a small space, we definitely yearned for the experience that the Big Banana offers,” says Rick Odell, father and husband of the family. In fact, the Big Banana was the whole reason they visited Coffs Harbour in the first place!
With so many family friendly attractions for you and the kids, why not plan a trip to Coffs Harbour?
Other attractions in the park include the Candy Kitchen. Opal Centre, Cheesemaking Workshop & Deli and Steve McEwan’s Reptile World. With all this to see and do, it’s hard to think of a reason not to plan a trip to the Coffs Coast, especially for this ‘big’ day out.
The Big Banana has a vision for the future…“To continue to be the number one “Big” thing in Australia. To expand their attraction offerings & see the Big Banana become a world class tourist attraction.”
It seems a common feeling among not just families, but friends and young couples too, that the Big Banana has something to entertain everyone when coming to the Coffs Coast.
