Winter Solstice Family Fun Day

  • Free

The Winter Solstice will be a day where the whole of community can come together to celebrate the shortest day and longest night in the year. We will endeavor to create an “old-world fair on the green’ type day, one filled with old fashioned games such as tug-of-war, sack races, beanbag toss, spin the wheel etc. We will have jumping castles for the kids, live music, belly dancers, pipe band, drummers, jugglers, fire twirlers including market and food stalls. It will be an opportunity for us to grow community connections, combat the loneliness and isolation that has been created after many months of forced restrictions due to the coronavirus. It will be a day to celebrate, have fun, connect with others, and embrace our freedom. We’re hoping to create a safe space in and around the Community Centre, utilizing both the Community Centre itself and the surrounding grounds.
Our event will also provide a range of youth led workshops and presentations of creative works from the BECC Youth Crew such as tie-dye, candle making, rock painting and much more. the night will end with a Bonfire and lantern parade. The aim of the Winter Solstice is for it to be a “no cost-low cost” event.
