South Solitary Island Lighthouse ‘Optic’ Opening

  • Free

The community is invited to attend a special opening and anniversary event for the magnificent South Solitary Island Lighthouse ‘optic’ taking place from around 6.30pm on Friday, 15 March at the Jetty Foreshores, at the head of the Jetty.

The optic has undergone meticulous conservation, and it is now installed at the Jetty Foreshores near the new community building.

Mayor Cr Paul Amos will officially open the optic enclosure, which will then be lit for 15 minutes, exactly 144 years to the day after it first shone on the island in 1880.

The event will include a celebration by Friends of South Solitary Island Lighthouse (FOSSIL).

Don’t miss the chance to witness the magnificence of the South Solitary Island Lighthouse optic and celebrate its rich history.

The South Solitary Island Lighthouse ‘optic’ conservation and relocation project was supported by the NSW Government through a Community Building initiative.
