The Waterfall Way was recently voted as one of the best scenic drives in NSW, winding through five National Parks starting from beaches at Sawtell and Valla through Bellingen a picturesque town with dairy farms lining the banks of the Bellinger River.
Situated about 34km from Bellingen is the historical town of Dorrigo which is home to the stunning Dorrigo National Park with World Heritage Gondwana rainforests and magnificent waterfall walks. Among Dorrigo National Park’s many attractions you will find the enchanting Crystal Showers Falls with views of the falls accessed via the suspension bridge. Hear the sounds of rainforest birds on the Wonka Walk and weave your way between 600-year-old trees.
Near the Dorrigo town centre is Dangar Falls a beautiful 30-metre waterfall. Stop at the picnic spot and enjoy the spectacular views. You can also follow a short trail from the viewing platform to the water at the bottom of the falls.
West of Dorrigo, on the way to Armidale, you can watch the Guy Fawkes River plunge 100m over two waterfalls at Ebor Falls. Three lookout platforms along the edge of the escarpment offer spectacular views out into the gorge country. Along the Waterfall Way you can also hike through sub-alpine woodlands to the towering granite formations of Cathedral Rocks to the 400 meter summit which is reached after you clamber over boulders and straddle crevices.
The Waterfall Way offers further natural attractions en route to Armidale including one of NSW’s highest drops at the incredible Wollomombi Falls and gorge, where waters plunge 220m into the valley. Enjoy the walking tracks and picnic areas in the Oxley Wild Rivers National Park.
