If you really want to immerse yourself in Coffs Coast’s natural environment, why not go camping? From basic tent sites in the bush to more established campsites or caravan parks with all the amenities and facilities you could want, they’re yours for the picking. They all have one thing in common though: when you stick your head out of your tent or caravan in the morning, you’ll breathe the purest air and immediately smell the trees or the ocean.

For a complete back-to-nature experience, try Thungutti Camping Ground in New England National Park, west of Dorrigo (via the Waterfall Way and 12km of unsealed road). It’s a great base from which to explore the park’s trails and wildlife. Nymboi-Binderay National Park, north of Dorrigo, has two camping grounds to choose from: Platypus Flat and The Junction. Both are near crystal-clear water and are great if you like swimming or canoeing. You might even spot a platypus! Platypus Flat is just off the Moonpar Forest Drive, while The Junction is off Black Mountain Road (unsealed roads/trails). These National Parks camping grounds have basic facilities only. Contact the Dorrigo Rainforest Centre at 02 6657 2309 for further information.

If you are looking to free camp, then you can find the perfect spot for you in any of our 11 Forestry areas along Coffs Coast and pull over for the night.  Facilities such as showers, toilets and cooking faciliaties may not be available to you as they are in National Parks, however, camping in any forest area is completely free.

If you like your camping but still also appreciate your creature comforts, don’t worry there are over 30 camp sites and holiday parks right along the coast that offer full facilities. From two to four and a half stars and even glamping sites, there’s bound to be a camping ground to suit your needs.

Some key locations you may consider for your next camping trip are Red Rock, Arrawarra, Woolgoolga, Moonee Beach, Coffs Harbour, Sawtell, Repton, Mylestom and Urunga. Many of them are situated close to the beach but surrounded by trees and you’ll enjoy regular visits from local wildlife. You may be close to a town but will feel like you’re miles away!
