Coffs Harbour

The friendly beachside city of Coffs Harbour is Coffs Coast’s vibrant heart. Surrounded by National Parks and facing the Solitary Islands Marine Park, the natural environment and uncrowded beaches are complemented by exciting activities and attractions, excellent shopping, fantastic accommodation and award-winning cafes and restaurants.

Coffs Harbour sits in a unique position where the Great Dividing Range meets the Australian east coast. The subtropical city lies between the forested hills and sparkling blue waters. Coffs Harbour is a modern city with a small-town atmosphere and the hub from which to explore Coffs Coast’s enormous selection of things to see and do.

Take a stroll along the Jetty foreshores, the historic Jetty itself, the Marina and Northern breakwall and admire the scenic harbour views. The hilly island dominating this view is Muttonbird Island, home to thousands of wedge-tailed shearwaters. Its walking track offers exceptional views back to Coffs Harbour.

Where to shop in Coffs Harbour

Hit the town for some retail therapy.  Whether you are seeking large department stores such as Big W and Target, electronics, stationary, grocers or boutique clothing, Coffs Harbour offers three main shopping precincts.

Head to Park Beach Plaza, the one-stop shopping centre located on the Pacific Highway with over 120 stores or the newly renovated Coffs Central and City Square in the heart of the CBD.  Choose from fashion, food, health and beauty, lifestyle, fresh food and much more.

The Promenade is another area to enjoy some shopping, creek-side and close by the Coffs Harbour Jetty strip. Alternatively, enjoy one of the many markets offering produce, crafts and hand made and locally inspired creations.

The magical marina and Jetty

The old timber jetty in the harbour at Coffs is the place to promenade, sit and fish, photograph a sunrise or to watch swimmers, seabirds, fishing boats, outrigger canoe paddlers and cruising yachts come and go.

At the adjacent marina, the fishing fleet and cruise boats go about their daily routine – landing fish or getting ready to venture out for more. Whale watch cruise boats in season (May to November) set out on their expeditions with excited passengers while other folk sip latte or snack on fish & chips.

Explore the Solitary Islands Marine Park

The Solitary Islands Marine Park hugs Coffs Coast for 75 kilometres from Coffs Harbour, north to Sandon River. This is where warm tropical waters meet and mix with cooler currents from the south.

The park encompasses estuaries, sandy beaches, rocky shore, sub-tidal reefs, open ocean and six islands in the Solitary Islands group.

It is here where over 550 reef fish species, 90 types of hard coral and 600 molluscs thrive. While most reside year round, others come and go with the seasons.  Some from Queensland and the Great Barrier Reef, others from as far south as Tasmania as well as the mighty Humpback whales from Antarctica. It’s a real ‘fish soup’.
