Red Rock & Corindi
Red Rock
Red Rock is the northernmost village on the Coffs Coast, and popular with those enjoying nature and the outdoors. At 40km from Coffs Harbour, Red Rock is an easy half-hour drive from the city, or just over 10 minutes from
Woolgoolga
.
The quiet village is nestled on the estuary of the pristine Corindi River, at the southern end of Yuraygir National Park. The recreation area near the mouth of the river is an idyllic, sheltered location to spend a day while enjoying sensational views up and down the river. It features a children’s playground, benches, shaded picnic tables, plenty of grassy areas and trees to laze under, an amenities block and a boat ramp.
Red Rock Reserve, the Corindi River and the beach offer plenty of fantastic spots for swimming, snorkelling, picnicking, fishing, boating, canoeing and kayaking, surfing and body boarding.
Red Rock is named after the stunning red rock formations (made of jasper) at the mouth and headland of the estuary. For thousands of years, Aboriginal people used to gather at Red Rock for ceremonies, initiations and to exchange resources.
A delightful 800m boardwalk lets you explore the riverside with its mangroves and shorebirds. It’s a very accessible way to get a taste of the southern fringes of Yuraygir National Park.
Red Rock Caravan Park has plenty of camping sites and cabins, barbecue facilities and a general store where you can buy take-away food and drinks.
Corindi
Access to Red Rock is via Corindi, another village with a scenic beachfront and a relaxed atmosphere. Corindi Beach is great for surfing, swimming and snorkelling. It also has plenty of rockpools for young children to explore. Corindi features a holiday park in a secluded location, a general store and various outdoor recreation areas with picnic tables and benches.
Just 1km out of Corindi on Red Rock Road is the Yarrawarra Aboriginal Corporation, where you can try authentic bush tucker food at the café and browse the gallery for unique Aboriginal artworks, all handcrafted by local Gumbaynggirr people.
