Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery, 19 November 2011 – 14 January 2012.
The annual Eutick Memorial Still Life Award (EMSLA), now in its 5th year, has become a significant year-end staple at the Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery.
Not only is the EMSLA the region's biggest art prize (the first prize is $15,000), it has also quickly gained an excellent reputation in the Australian arts scene and attracts still life artists from around the nation. This year, nearly 300 still life works were entered from all across Australia. Sixty finalists are now on display at the Gallery.
The prestigious award, which promotes excellence and innovation in Australian still life, has been made possible by Gallery benefactor Dr Mal Eutick.
On Opening Night, a glamorous and musical event attended by hundreds of art lovers, EMSLA judge and well-known art critic John McDonald announced that the 2011 Award was won by Angus Nivison for his work “Empty Vessels (Tree Guards)" (acrylic and charcoal on canvas).
Everyone visiting the Gallery between now and mid January will be able to cast a vote for their favourite still life in the exhibition, with the most popular artwork winning the People’s Choice Award.
At the exhibition, you’ll find more than just fruit and vases. Some artworks depict quite unique and so-real-you-think-you-can-touch-them objects that almost seem to jump out at you from the canvas.
You can visit the Gallery to see the exhibition until 14 January 2012 and entry to the Gallery is free.
The Coffs Harbour Regional Gallery is located in Rigby House on the corner of Coff and Duke Streets, in the centre of Coffs Harbour. Opening hours are Tuesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm. For enquiries, call the Gallery on 6648 4863.
