Everyone loves a funny and clever comic strip, right? For guaranteed laughs, make sure you visit the Bunker Cartoon Gallery in Coffs Harbour between
23 July and 24 September, because the very best of the best cartoons will be on display at the 23rd Rotary Cartoon Awards.
The Rotary Cartoon Awards competition recognises the best of Australian and international cartoons a total of $10,000 in prize money.
A record number of 730 cartoons, caricatures and comic strips were entered into this year’s Cartoon Awards from as many as 24 countries.
Special themes this year include “Tying the Knot”, “Freedom of Information” and “World Rally Championships”. That last theme was of course chosen because the Australian leg of the World Rally is held on Coffs Coast in September.
Have a stroll around the historic bunker, which has been converted into a quirky art gallery, to view the finalists’ entries in this year’s Award on the walls. All entries that didn’t make it into the final round will be available for viewing in folders. More folders can also be found in the foyer where you can browse through the incredible number of cartoons that were entered in previous years.
The Bunker is a cool, fun and very affordable destination that’s perfect for a hot or rainy day.
On Saturday 23 July, the winners will be announced at the Opening Night and Awards Presentation at the Bunker Cartoon Gallery. Tickets to this entertaining evening are available from the Gallery.
The Bunker Cartoon Gallery, located on John Champion Way near the Hogbin Drive/Albany Street roundabout in Coffs Harbour, is open Monday to Saturday from 10am to 4pm, and regular entry is just $2 for adults and $1 for children.
